supernatural blog two

SUPERNATURAL BLOG TWO
In Jamaica our type of music is referred to as reggae. Reggae originated in Jamaica and played a huge role in making our country the way it is today. Jamaicans take their music very seriously and our language is said to be one of the most colorful in the Caribbean and is found in many if not all Jamaican music which also makes our music colorful.
The song I choose is called “Guardian Angel” and is sung by a group called TOK. The group consists of four guys Flexx, Bay-C, Alex and Craig T. In the song they talk about the times in which we are and they need protection and guidance from above. The refrain is asking God to guide them by sending a Guardian Angel and to give them strength from above. Each group member sings a verse by himself and each verse refers to something different.
Flexx’s verse is the fist verse that was sung. He is asking god to save him from his enemies and to send someone to guide him. The second verse is sung by Bay-C he feels broken hearted and like he is going no where and he is all alone its like he is depressed and he need somebody else (A Guardian Angel). The third verse is sung by Alex he feel the world would be a better place if we could all live together in peace and harmony rather than the hatred and killing that’s taking place he needs somebody else because he and do it by himself. The last verse is sung by Craig T talks about how living on earth sometimes feel like hell and he is saying whether you’re rich or poor you should not sell your soul no matter how had the times are. He is asking god to send a guardian angel to watch over mankind.

the supernatural in jamaica

SUPERNATURAL BLOG ONE

The supernatural has played quit an important role in my life as well as the history of my people. I am Jamaican and in Jamaica there are many different cultures therefore we have different religions and believe in different gods. Jamaicans have African cultures from when slaves were brought to the country they came with a lot of different religion, customs, and believes. This played a huge part in the way Jamaica is today. Indian cultures where Indians came to the country to work and they came with Hinduism, so were the Chinese who came with Buddhism. A culture that has recently become a part of Jamaica is Rastafarianism. They believe in Ras Tafari and praise “emperior Haile Selassie”. A major supernatural element or phenomenon is something that Jamaicans call obeah other countries refer to it as witchcraft or voodoo.
The dominant religion in Jamaica is Christianity therefore Christians believe in the god of Moses and the scriptures of the Holy Bible. In Jamaica as well as other countries persons are said to speak in “tongues” when a person speaks in tongues he or she speaks word that cannot be understood by most people and that person is said to be talking to god. It is said that the person has the person is taken over by the holy spirit .persons in that state also do a lot of jumping around.
The symbol used in Christianity is the cross it signifies what Jesus was crucified on and that he gave his life for us. Some crosses are plain while others have a image of Jesus on it showing his crucifixion.

Before a person can become a truly dedicated Christian he or she gets baptized in Jamaica some persons get baptized in rivers like Jesus did as to wash of f their sins, others get baptized in the church itself as some churches have pools inside of them. Parents also carry their babies to the church to get them christened. Christening comes from “Christ which means to bring to Christ” (http://www.christeningessentials.com/what_is_christening_).
Religion plays an important part in everybody’s life whether you are a Christian or a Buddhist and each religion has its supernatural beliefs and that’s what makes our religion what it is. We can either choose to believe it or forget about it.
